How can a Canadian citizen work in the US? How long will it take to get a working visa?
Q. What if the person marry a US citizen for love? Can that US citizen help the Canadian citizen a working visa quicker? And how long will it take..
Asked by MC - Wed Sep 12 03:27:59 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A skilled Canadian can get a TN visa very quickly because of NAFTA. Otherwise, it's almost impossible, except through marriage, in which case it's again very quick. In both cases, it's likely to take a few months.

What happens to a Canadian citizen if they import goods without paying Duty?
Q. If a Canadian citizen buys goods in the US and brings them across the Canadian border under the shipper's authority without declaring the goods to Customs, what are the consequences? The citizen intends to re-sell the goods they purchased in the US.
Asked by Kerie K - Sat Aug 16 04:34:52 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There's a lot of variables. The penalties will be harshest if the goods are controlled like alcohol or tobacco. If you're audited by the CRA or Customs you'll have to provide copies of invoices. You'll be fined the duty, a penalty, and if the situation is serious (large dollar amount or long period of time that this has happened) you and the seller may face jail time.

Can a US citizen marry a Canadian citizen and reside in Canada?
Q. I am a US citizen, looking to marry a Canadian man and reside in Canada. What I've come across tells me this is almost impossible. How would I get a visa to stay there, and what is needed in order to do such? It's all very stressing as I've tried to pull up as much information as I possibly could. Though getting absolutely no where with that. I had to wonder if anyone else has come across the same dilemma. Any helpful information is appreciated.

A. It is no problem at all, but it can be a bit difficult to find the exact information you need on the site. If you have been in a common law relationship for one year you can begin the process for permanent resident status immediately. Or if you are married you can begin the process immediately. Here is an answer I did earlier today to almost the exact same question, except that it was a Canadian woman marrying an American man and he was coming with her to Canada. (I will change the pronouns to make it clearer for you :) You will have to go through an immigration process and he will have to sponsor you to get your permanent resident status. In other words he has to agree to support you financially, pay for any medical bills, etc.… [cont.]

A. No problem if you're a USA Permanent Resident (green card holder). If you're NOT a permanent resident, you have a problem. You have to identify yourself as International Student. You pay full tuition. Most schools do not offer scholarships or other Financial Aid to International Students. It is difficult to get bank loans.

A. NO..They will not get to stay and he will be deported regardless. The Canadian government will see the marriage as a poor attempt to totally ignore an lawful order of court order issued legally and thru due process. The fact that the subject was ordered deported and despite knowing this he made a willful choice to ignore the order, will result in the deportation taking place in and of itself...

A. So you would like your father to become Canadian too eh? If you are 18 yo or older, you can sponsor your father to come to Canada as an immigrant via the family class. You will have to promise that you will support him financially for a period of 10 years from the day he arrives in Canada. You will also have to meet some financial requirements before your application is approved. There are two steps involved in petitioning a parent. You first apply to sponsor your parent here in Canada. It takes about 25 months for your application to be processed and approved. Then it is sent to the embassy in your home country where they will process your father's application. This will take about a minimum of 23 months depending on your country of… [cont.]

What needs to do if a US citizen wants to become a Canadian citizen?
Q. What is the procedure and requirement if I want to live in Canada and become Canadian citizen?
Asked by unknown - Thu Feb 19 00:02:00 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You have to get permission to come to Canada to live, gain permanent residency, and after a period of time you can qualify to naturalize. You do not lose your US Citizenship in this process. Generally speaking most people need to have a necessary skill to get permission. Canada will give you a preference if you spend several years there in University and get a useful degree. Here is the website with ALL the information, including self-tests to see if you can get enough points to immigrate based on your occupation and background: Now if you go to Canada for a few years to study or on a temporary work permit perhaps you'll fall in love and have a Canadian spouse of either sex; that will allow you to get permanent residence as well. … [cont.]

Many Canadians are coming down to our area in particular (Phoenix/Scottsdale) to purchase homes. Prices have retreated dramatically and your Canadian dollar is very strong against ours. So in essence you're getting a double discount. Of course, any Canadian resident can buy a piece of property in the US.
