When does the passport law between Canada and the United States start?
Q. My friend wants me to come camping with her in the states but I don't have a passport. Do I have to show It starting june1st? I'm not sure. What would happen if I went in the states before june 1st without a passport and I tried to return to Canada after june 1st without one?

A. "Hi"...Go before June 1st if you don't have a Passport simple as that ...have some picture I.D and a Birth Certificate for presentation to U.S. Customs! On June 1st. and after you are hooped as U.S Customs will be adament about having one as it's law. As far as Canadian customs goes...you'll have to prove you are Canadian on your return home which shouldn't be difficult ! I mean let's face it , you are not going to be denied if you are a Canadian regardless if you have a Passport or not. Happy camping and glad to help ! *S* (Michael C...)

I have lost my Indian passport and do not have a copy of it. How to find out the no of passport.?
Q. I have lost my Indian passport during traveling and I do not have a copy of the passport. I don't remember the no of my passport also. What is the process of knowing my passport. Is there any web site where passport no can be known.

A. Passport is a very sensitive document as far as national security is concerned. You should immediately file an FIR in the Police station and carry a copy of the same to the passport office. You should better go to the issuing passport office and talk to the passport officer and tell him / her your story. They might ask you to give details like name, father's / mother's name, residential address etc. I think, with the help of the above, they may track down your passport number and may issue a duplicate on applying afresh...

Do we need a passport to go to Canada from Michigan?
Q. Next August, 2008, my husband and I have a meeting in Canada, and are planning to take our children, the oldest of whom will be 11. We are all US (Michigan) citizens. Will we all need passports, how much does a passport cost, and how long is it valid? Is this done through the Secretary of State's office? By the way, we'll be driving, not flying, if that makes any difference.

A. This isn't static, it is a work in progress, so you will need to keep on top of it between now and then. Right now, the suggested rules for next year (driving) is you and your husband will need passports and you will need birth certificates for the kids. (Revised rules announced Feb 2007) I would start the process soon. Passports are valid for 5 years, and the US has an easier process to renew a passport. You can get an application at any post office, or at my second link. It costs $97 each, plus photos. See the link - scroll to the bottom for Children. The rule change in the news today is those flying this summer only need to show they applied for a passport because of passport issue backlogs. So, they still would have had to apply for… [cont.]

Q. Here is the scenario. The passport is still valid while embarking at a country. The flight travels for 4 hours and because of the timezone difference, the passport already expired while landing at the home country destination. What will happen now? Will they try me for violation? P.S: I am not into this situation. Just to understand the general immigration procedures.

which passport to use to travel to Indonesia from US for my son who holds 2 passport?
Q. My 10 month-old is traveling to Indonesia. He was born in the US. He also has Indonesian passport. Which passport should he use? If we continue travel to some other south east asian countries (ie Singapore/Malaysia/Thailand) from Indonesia, which passport should he use? Anyone has recent experiences?

A. Indonesian passport will allow him to enter South East Asian (SEA) countries without visa while using USA passport may cost you visa arrangement & costs to enter SEA countries. I think it is wiser to use Indonesian passport to enter Indonesia & SEA countries then using USA passport when returning to USA.

A. You are good to go with your passport of the Philippines until the last date of its validation. More than 120 countries have concluded an agreement with the United States that their citizens are not required to have the regular six month validation of the passport for entering the United States; one of these countries is the Philippines. How do Passport Control officials tell if a passport is current?
Q. Do they ask the owner of a passport if their passport is current and if the photo in the passport is current?
Asked by mattcasey2017 - Wed Dec 7 04:13:42 2011 - Immigration - 3 Answers - Comments
A. You must not have a passport. It is evident because there is a date issued field and a date of expiration field. Most passports are now machine readable making it even more foolproof and by foolproof I mean more expensive for conterfeiters to fake.

Q. I am planning a vacation to the Philippines on April 2010 for a 1 month visit. My passport expires on July 2010. I am a Filipino citizen and a permanent resident here in Canada. Is it still valid for me to travel there, having only a 3 month validity for my passport?

A. For a Philippine passport holder, traveling to Philippines even when your passport is about to expire in less than a month is not a problem. The 6 month rule applies only to travelers visiting a foreign country. However, you might want to ensure that you get your old passport back when you apply for the new one if it is connected to the residence permit you have for Canada otherwise you possibly will have trouble re-entering Canada.

A. If you live in/near a city that has a passport center [see the State Department website], you may be able to have a passport card processed in a day or so. You may have to make an appointment to do so, you may have to have proof of imminent travel, and you definitely will pay a lot more.

A. Based on your name [Madrid] and by reading through your question [US Embassy] it can be presumed that you do not live in the U.S. The passport card can only be used for land/sea travel from the United States to Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, and the adjacent islands of the Caribbean. If you are legally staying in Spain and have a Spanish "Residencia Card" as I.D. there would be actually no need for you to get the U.S. passport card in addition to the passport book. ..
