A. one thing is for sure... you cannot get 2 passports. you can actually change your passports family name, however you may need lots of documents since you mentioned that youre already holding a pssport with your husbands family name. i have done this but it took me 2 months to complete the papers they asked me to present to them. they will ask you to submit your old passport... court order... and some affidavits notarized by your lawyer.

A. Last time I checked, it took a month to renew a passport since they had to send it to Manila since the implementation of the machine readable passport. But that was then, I am not sure how long it would take. Better call them up. Links provided.**

Do I have to renew my expired Philippine passport before applying for US Citizenship?
Q. After 9 years living in the US, I am finally ready to acquire my US citizenship and possibly will send my application this coming December. However, my Philippine passport has expired last August 23rd. I am wondering if anyone of you here have applied with an expired passport recently. Or anybody who heard from someone that expired passport is OK. I can't find anywhere (so far) that says it is OK to apply with an expired passport. Thank you for any help you can give.

A. Its optional if you have the required legal documents - NSO or countries Marriage certificate I have read both princess and arabella answers. They are both right to a point. Princess say you do not need to renewal until required. This is not true to a point. You can still use your old passport with maiden name if you have your official marriage certificate or other legal documents indicating name change with you when you travel. You show these offical documents when you check in with the airlines and when you go through Customs and Immigrations I am more inclined to agree with arabella and change the passport refecting your new legal name to avoid possible confusion, but it is optional if you have the other foremention documents with… [cont.]

Can a Chinese Citizen but born in the Philippines get a philippine passport?
Q. My dad is a chinese citizen both my grandparents are also a chinese citizen but had already settle here in the Phillipines for a decade. My dad is a naturalized born here in the Phillippines, can he get a philippine passport?
Asked by judz - Tue Aug 18 06:22:40 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A Philippine passport is given as a priveledge to Philippine Citizens. That's the law. The citizenship of your dad should be clarified first. Is he a Chinese Citizen or a Filipino Citizen or both. (Philippines allows dual citicenship, but China does not). Read this link to find out about his citizenship. According to this link being born in the Philippines does not automatically make one a Filipino citizen, especially if the parents are not Filipino citizen. There are certain conditions that must be satisfied. But then you said your dad was naturalized. That means your dad has met the conditions specified by the law and he hold the documents to prove this. Then by all means he can apply for a Philippine passport.

Can a Philippine passport holder make a 'visa run' to Macau or Shenzhen to get a fresh 2 week Tourist Visa?
Q. May a Philippine passport holder cross from Hong Kong into Macau or Shenzhen and immediately return to Hong Kong with a fresh two-week tourist visa? If it is allowed, how many such 'visa runs' are permitted? Perhaps I was not clear in my question. If a Philippine passport holder flies to Hong Kong, is stamped with a stay good for 2 weeks. Can they then simply cross over into Macau or Shenzhen and immediately return to Hong Kong and receive another stamp good for another 2 weeks?

Asked by unknown - Mon Jun 1 23:27:57 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Don't worry about renewing the passport. You are a citizen of the Philippines until you obtain American citizenship. Even then, you can probably maintain what is called "dual citizenship". But check with the State Department on that issue. You can renew your passport in the US, at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate nearest you. It won't affect your premanent resident status in the US, but might present problems if you try to leave the US before you get your US citizenship or new passport. You cannot enter other countries with an expired passport. You must have a current passport from SOME country. The US permanent resident card is probably not sufficient alone. .

Travel to Canada with US green card but expired Philippine passport?
Q. I am a US green card holder and like to travel to Canada but my Philippine passport is expired, can I still travel ?
Asked by mirachel t - Wed Jul 9 20:02:23 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You currently do NOT need a passport to travel between the US/Canada if you are travelling by land. If you are flying then YES, you do need a passport. Currently, travel via a highway accross the border you are requried to produce a goverment issued photo ID and proof of citizenship (ie, birth certificate, or citizenship card) Your valid US greencard would be suffice to travel to Canada. Your expired passport can be used as your proof of citizenship.

A. The Philippines and the United States of America both allow "dual citizenship" and many filipinos who are United States citizens still maintain their Philippine passport. Off hand it would seem that travel would be easier in the Philippines and southeast Asia with a Philippine passport than an American. Also with the threats of terrorism I personally would feel safer traveling to areas like Mindanao on a Philippine passport especially if I was traveling to the western part of the island. the same argument could be made for Indonesia or any other predominately Muslim country. What ever you decide congratulations on your United States citizenship.

visa requirements for europe for philippine passport holder?
Q. i'm planning to travel to europe with my husband this summer. we specifically want to visit germany, the czech republic (prague) and austria. my husband, having a korean passport, doesn't need a visa to enter these countries however i'm a filipina and i still hold a philippine passport. do i have to get a visa for all three countries? does anyone know the visa requirements for these countries for such a case?

A. The lady who answered before me is correct. For Germany and Austria you need only a Schengen visa to enter both countries. You can apply at the embassy of your main destination (where you will stay longer) or where you will arrive first. Czech Republic requires a different type of visa and you can apply at their consulate. The embassies usually require that you set up an appointment by phoning their call center. Prepare all your paperwork such as bank certificates, statements, passbook, employment certificate or business registration and your passport (valid at least 6 months) showing previous travels. If you are have no work, your husband must execute an affidavit of support with all his financial documents and your marriage… [cont.]
