Religion and Spirituality Answers

Would there be less conflict here in R&S if we separated Religion & Spirituality into two different categories?
Q. Sometimes the two have little in common...Religion often seems to be at odds with Spirituality and trying corral, control, and supersede it.
Asked by Goldberry - Sat May 22 17:00:41 2010 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes but divide them to where one is no holds barred, to ask and answer as you feel without the threat of being reported. I was thinking about this the other day. :-)

Do you think religion/spirituality does a human more good or bad?
Q. I'm talking about becoming spiritual in general, not "well, if there wasn't God, we wouldn't be here, so it does complete good!", that's not the question. Just if anyone becomes religious in general, do think it will help them more in life or bring them down? Your thoughts? There is no right or wrong answer, and I'll only give thumbs down to non-respectful answers, but besides them I won't put thumbs up or thumbs down.

A. I will answer from personal experience and say that faith in Jesus has definitely done me more good than bad and I'm convinced that everyone I know will agree with me on this one... Prior to putting my trust in Jesus I was a drug dealing, womanising, foul mouthed alcoholic who thought that fun involved going out clubbing, smoking some dope, getting very drunk and taking a different woman home each night. I lived for myself and rarely gave a thought for others at all... Since becoming a Christian all this has changed... Now my life is characterised by the good things that I do rather than the bad. I worked at a homeless drop-in center for several years before heading to Malawi (among the 10 poorest nations in the world) to work as a… [cont.]

Why is there more Atheist in the Religion & Spirituality section than actual Religious people?
Q. I just did a head count. And it was 10 to 1. Atheist to Religious people. What does that tell you?
Asked by Byrd - Tue May 18 11:47:42 2010 - - 25 Answers - 1 Comments

A. It tells me that these people are angry at religion for some reason. Many of the people who label themselves as atheists are not atheists at all. They are just reacting to a negative religious upbringing. Having finally seen the conflicting nonsense that religion told them as a lie, they assume that everything that religion told them must be a lie too. God included. So they sort of throw the baby (God) out with the bath water (religion) Love and blessings Don

I thought this was a religion/spirituality forum. Whats with all of these strange answers?
Q. I thought this was a religion/spirituality forum, yet most of the answers from people are trying to denounce religion and spirituality of any kind. Seriously, there is a science forum just around the corner there.

A. But it still involves religion, science section is for purely scientific matters. Just like I shouldn't ask a question about a cat being shot out of a cannon in the cat section but in the physics section.

Why does my question in Religion & Spirituality appear in my profile but not in questions?
Q. 3 Days ago I posted a question in Religion and Spirituality which is in my profile as an open question but is not in the R&S questions! Why?
Asked by sherlock - Thu Jan 28 06:21:05 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sometimes you find that a question gets mis-sorted and appears out of order. I use R&S a lot, sometimes I see recent questions published next to questions which are 2 or 3 days old. And yes, sometimes questions don't appear on the category lists at all, even though the question does exist as an open question and your fans will have been sent the links by email. It happens occasionally - it's a glitch. ___ Just checked out your question in R&S. I wonder if this one's been held back by the automatic censor for checking by the staff. I think the word "hypocrisy" would be listed in the lexical analysis function of the censor. Usually when this happens the question gets checked and deleted a few hours later by the staff. If you deleted it… [cont.]

Why are there so many weird questions in the Religion & Spirituality section here?
Q. Is this the section where people with no lives all gather at? I mean, there are the legitimate questions about faith matters and religion, and there's questions regarding irreligion, and often there's troll answers on each type of question. But then there's the ones that are just WAY out there.

A. I think it would be great if we had a format with only legitimate spiritual questions and those interested only in their own entertainment would switch to TV or whatever..I enjoy answering good questions but sometimes I have to pass 10 questions before I find a good one. I often wonder what kind of life many of these people have when they have so much time to devote to bashing others, being totally silly, and being as vulgar as they are able to get away with..God bless

Why are Christians and Atheists always at each others throats in Religion & Spirituality?
Q. Have you guys noticed this? What is up with that? I've read questions attacking Atheists and read questions attacking Christians! Can't these people find another place to fight?

A. All the other religions and atheists live in peace and are only attacked by christians and self defense is legitimate! It takes in reality only one to make a quarrel. It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion. - William Ralph Inge. Do you not recognise that Christians are provoking retaliation and repudiation for their terrible attitudes?! Perhaps if Christians stopped their intolerant, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted postings things might change! Perhaps if Christians stopped eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more things might change! Why do Atheists vote Christian answers as bad in Religion & Spirituality category?
Q. Are Atheists so childish that they cannot stand an answer that is different then theirs? And before the Atheists say we do the same to them, remember: this is the religion category

A. So silly and naive!! The most likely people to give a thumbs down or even violate are christians!! Either because they are the BAD christians that are intolerant, hate filled, bigoted persecuters of anyone who dares to think even slightly differently to themselves including their own religion!! Or, They are the GOOD christians that believe in a loving god and act like it that are appalled at the tremendous damage the BAD christians are doing to it!!

In your opinion, which is the most liberating religion/spirituality for both men and women?
Q. Which treats both genders with respect, for those who wonder why it is in this section. That's why. Extrapolate. Please. Any links would be helpful. I am not familiar with some of these. Also - are gays and bis accepted in these same religions/spiritualities? I got real tired of elaborate, Facade. And remember, I'm not British so sometimes I have a sense of humor. Oh, and you forgot your comma after "straight" :P Just kiddin'- good to see you. ;-) Digger, I agree with you. I just wish you'd talked more about what you said, especially Sikhism. A. Naturally, I'd be inclined to choose my own, which is Judaism, but of a particular kind: the Jewish Renewal movement which is both socially progressive (egalitarian, pro-human rights, supportive of LGBT people) and theologically traditional, drawing on Hasidism and Kabbalah, unabashedly mystical and emphasizing close study of the Torah and other texts, to address the whole human being. But obviously, I have a bias. From what I know of many forms of Buddhism, especially as it has adapted to the West, it is very positive. Many Christian denominations are, particularly the Quakers, the Community of Friends. Sufism is a very positive form of Islam.

IN Religion & Spirituality lately is it just me or are there few real and thoughtful questions this week?
Q. I tend to only respond and answer questions with substance and actual merit and I am finding fewer and fewer lately. Does anyone else see this also and why do you think that is suddenly? Time of year, the weather, what could it be?

A. *sigh*, I have to agree... I have tried asking a few questions, but it seems my timing is always off... The ones whom I wish to answer are never on when I post... ROFL, story of my life... all I got were silly, childish , abusive answers ... I am seriously thinking of throwing in the towel... It is getting ridicules in here...and if you do try to answer, they block you for challenging them or disagreeing... all that is left it seems are cowards, trolls and the kiddies... Few are left that WANT to learn or find ways to at least co-exist... shame really... go in peace... God bless

Religion&Spirituality:Do you think the Vicar of Dibley is a good vicar?

Is there a religion or spirituality like this?
Q. I believe that the truly spiritual part of life is in mere conscious experience of existence, and that that is why we're here. Does any religion, spirituality or philosophy have this view?
Asked by scameter14 - Sun Sep 7 04:52:56 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This has correspondence to some Buddhist beliefs. For instance, the Buddhists believe that personal experience is the most important factor in a person's personality. Credentials and titles matter little, unless they are backed up by an intimate familiarity with the concept. In most cases, you'd want a doctor that had performed a surgery before to perform it on you over a doctor who had just learned how to do it last night (regardless of the other skills the doctor has). The Buddhists are big on the "mere conscious experience of existence," which we call mindfulness. This is a large part of some active meditation exercises and other Buddhist practices.

Why do people keep asking science questions in the religion & spirituality section?
Q. And don't they know that they can get a better, easier answer by just googling it or using wikipedia?
Asked by Noki Slovlaklovich - Mon Jan 19 07:32:47 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because they try to use science to dis-prove God, little do they know that science really proves God. Yes I watch many of these science channels, & at the end of each program they come up with the conclusion they don't really know.

How come "Religion & Spirituality" is a subcategory, but "Pets" is a full category here on yahooanswers?
Q. Forces that people have devoted their entire lives to, been a subject of historical upheavals, and are crucial to meaning of our existence vs. small companion animals that exist in few 1st world households ...
Asked by Farooq - Sat Dec 12 02:27:00 2009 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The category vs. subcategory is not meant to suggest how important a given topic may be. Pets is a main category because it needs to be further divided by which sorts of pets. After all, the questions about cats mean essentially nothing to dog-lovers, and vice versa. There is no appropriate subdivision of religion and spirituality because people want to share information and opinions about topics which are not limited to a specific religion at least as much as the various belief systems want to confine their contacts. Otherwise you'd mostly have "preaching to the choir," as they say.

What are your thoughts about religion, spirituality, the purpose of existence, all that good stuff?
Q. Quite frankly, I don't know. I think it's entirely possible that we're drifting along through space and we are the only ones who care. It's probably more likely that it's something totally weird that none of us could ever guess. Christianity? Atheism? Scientology? Quantum Physics? Elvis? Whaddaya think? @mari That's exactly what I think when I look in the mirror. Everyone is different.

Q. How are 'Religion & Spirituality' and 'Cooking & Recipe' connected? Is there even the remotest connection?
Asked by Katlin - Wed Dec 13 23:58:03 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no connection as such. But the same person can evince interest on both these categories of subjects. There is Zero Cool who has scored thousands of points by answering questions from Yahoo Products, Cooking and recipes as well as those on Atheism, Bible and Religions and specially on Scientology. One Thetaawal and The Outsiders have been countering her on Scientology. It is a different matter that her answers on religion and Spirituality are of mediocre standard and mostly her personal opinions rather than intellectual analysis based on sound reasoning. As one cooks recipes, Zero Cool is good in cooking stories in spiritualism because she knows the recipe of language and vocabulary.
