what should I do for my commuter rail trip?
Q. So, I live in Massachusetts. This week, I have plans to meet people in Boston. I'll just say the lines I'm using. Purple, Red, and green. I'm pretty sure red and green belong to the subway system, right? While purple is the commuter rail. And I'm going to be using the train the first time alone. I think I know my route. But here's my question... 1. Buying tickets. I know there's a kiosk at the purple station [usually.. right?]. Can I buy my tickets from there? 2. Are the commuter rail tickets different from subway tickets? 3. Can I use the same ticket if I get those "two way" tickets. You know, one to Boston and one coming home? Despite my lack of knowledge of what to get... o_O; Thank you so much!
Asked by Nemo! - Wed Jul 6 13:53:30 2011 - Boston - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Correct Purple is the commuter rail Red and green (along with Blue and orange) are subway lines If are heading inbound, you can buy tickets on the train. There are only a few stations outside the city you can buy tickets at the station Subway fares can be bought at every subway stop Commuter rail tickets are different from subway fares Yes , If you buy a round trip, ticket, you use it both directions, in the same day.

Driving From Concord NH to Albany NY?
Q. I am essentially driving from Concord NH to Albany NY (Bow, NH to Clifton Park, NY to be exact) and I'm trying to find the best way to go, and I've hit a bit of a snag, here's my problem. I used Google Maps as well as my Tom Tom gps to map out the route and it looks like there's 3 logical routes to choose from. 1. Go North on I-89 across route 4 in Vermont and then South on I-87 2. Go South Until I get to I-90 in Massachusetts and take that west basically until I get to Albany 3. Go West on route 9 in New Hampshire becoming route 9 in Vermont and then basically going a little ways North West after I hit New York State. Google Maps said the first option was by far the best taking only 3.5 hours and that the other two would take about 4 but… [cont.]

Going across the US with a driving permit?
Q. I'm planning on leaving from LA to Massachusetts, which is about 3,500 miles, to see a friend. I know how to drive there (done the drive multiple times, almost always same route). I'm not sure if there is a restriction because of my driving permit, I am 17 and I will be accompanied by an 18 year old with a license. Also, when I get my full license (2 weeks) will I be able to cross state lines and go to Mass. and back? I'm planning on leaving in 2 days. If I cant drive, my friend will.
Asked by Wdog - Thu Aug 18 06:53:17 2011 - Other - United States - 3 Answers - Comments

A. If you want to drive with a permit... In Texas you must have a licensed driver 21 years or older sitting in the front seat next to you at all times. In California you must have a licensed driver 25 years of age or older sitting in the front seat. I imagine the rules would be different in each state.

Who's to blame in Rutgers suicide, phobe prince etc.?
Q. First and foremost, let me state that I do believe these 2 along with every other suicide is a senseless tragedy. My only qualm is, who is to blame for such otriocities? Everyday numerous people commit suicide for various reasons, from financial issues to romantic problems and for the mass majority of these incidents, 99% of the country, or even the world, doesn't bat an eye. The only people who actually care are the people close to the ones who commit suicide. Alright, I've found literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on an amazing car on e Bay being sold out of Tennessee (and please don't patronize me or get on my case about that, I'm no idiot, I know a lot about cars, and it really is a unique opportunity). Now I obviously have no driver's license, not being able to get a learner's permit here till 16, and I'm NOT emancipated, like most kids, so it's a grey area whether I can enter into a legally-binding contract (only binding ones for minors are for necessities, which a car certainly isn't especially when I'm too young to drive it, and otherwise we can enter into contracts but it's not binding on our end (we can void it,… [cont.]

I am a design student who is looking for the right school to attend for graphic design.?
Q. I have been accepted to 3 schools but don't know which one to attend.1. Massachusetts College of Art and Design 2. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago 3. Ringling College of Art and Design. SAIC seems like the obvious choice, however I only have 36 credits left before I receive a BFA from them, which means that my graphic design portfolio will or may not be strong as other graduates because I will be put in beginner classes, so technically I will graduate with a sophomore level portfolio. Mass art and Ringling accepted me as a sophomore, Mass Art is obviously more affordable, but Ringling is more prestigious. Should I go to SAIC because of it reputation and risk not graduating with a poor portfolio, or should I take the safe and… [cont.]

A. I would stay with the Art Institute of Chicago. It has a stellar reputation and you're not far from your BFA. The strength of your portfolio doesn't depend on how close you are to graduation - it depends on you. If you are concerned your portfolio will appear inferior when you hit the job market, give your free time to building it - above and beyond your class work. Do free work for local business with small budgets, or create pieces for fictional businesses. Jump on freelance websites and beg for work if you have to. Whatever it takes.

Don't apartments have to have 2 escape routes?
Q. My landlord put a ramp over my back stairs with a sign that says "No trespassing- for wheel chairs only" and said that no one could use the back stairs except for the man in the house who is in a wheel chair. However, before that we always used to use the back door. The back door (which we can no longer use) and the front door are the only ways in and out of the house. I live in Massachusetts and I always thought that it was a law that there has to be 2 ways to exit the building incase of a fire. Is this true? Is it illegal for her to stop the use of the back door?

A. You have windows correct ? They are exits, correct ? Most second floor apartments do not have fire escape type exits. They have patio's and the front door. And, can you still use the back door in an emergency ? Or is the door blocked from opening ?

I also would like it to be as cheap and safe as possible. I have a few questions... 1.) How much would it cost me if I wanted to see: 19 states and 10 National State Parks? -The states I want to see are: Arizona, Utah, Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming, Tennessee, Arkansas, Main, New Mexico, Texas, North Carolina, Louisiana, Illinois, Washington D.C., New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virgina and Georgia. 2.) A. 1) Exact costs are difficult to determine here, that can vary wildly from person to person. Depends on how much the person likes to spend on shopping, entertainment, food, and so forth. You will likely be looking in the thousands of dollars, though maybe not the high thousands, depending on how many people you have and how long you're out there. As for the National Parks, entrance fees vary. You can purchase an annual pass for $80, granting you (actually, your vehicle and everyone in it) admission to all National Parks. If there's a person 62 or older coming with you, have that person get a lifetime pass for $10. If you or anyone with you has a permanent disability, that lifetime pass is free: 2) It is VERY possible to do that within two… [cont.]

Was I illegally searched by police?
Q. I was at a party on a private lake property. Police showed up and many people ran and a few were arrested. The police started towing vehicles. 2 hours later I was able to get mine between tow trucks dropping off a load where I found my vehicle unlocked and contents searched. My license, alcohol, and bong were organized on the seat (most likely too a photo). I am a minor but because i was not present at the time is the search of a parked (on private property) and locked vehicle illegal? Also, a wine bottle was in plain view. The car belongs to my father who has Virginia plates lives in Kentucky and I drive it in Massachusetts (father is military). He recently got rid of his house phone for a cell so, I doubt he'll receive a call from police. [cont.]
