Are sports important on your high school resume when applying to go to a college?
Q. I am wondering because I am very athletic, however I am not sure if I want to participate in any sports. I take on a lot of leadership skills, extracurricular activities, and I am practically valedictorian, but just how important are sports on your resume?

A. Colleges like it if you played sports in high school because it shows that you are a team player and that you have school spirit. It's not necessarily better than other extracurriculars, but it does look good to colleges.

Malaysia! How can sport fans play a role in determining who the sports officials are?
Q. It appears the sports officials from Badminton and Karate are flexing their muscles against their players and coaches. The fans know, the players are motivated by their coaches and not any of their management officials. The players and lower ranking coaches only kow tow to them because of the strong power they yield in their position. Its time the Sports minister kicks out all these political related management officials and place professionals for the future of Malaysian sports to ever reach and maintain international standards. These officials are making a mockery out of sports and its sportsperson. Politics out - Professionals In or Mediocre standard In - International Standard out. Choose. How important are sports on a college resume?
Q. How important are extracurricular activities and playing sports to getting into college? I was told that if you don't play a sport in high school, then you don't have much of a chance to getting into college.

A. You were told falsly. extra cirriculars are important on a college resume, sports are only one type of an extra cirricular. Without extra cirriculars, unless you are the smartest kid in your class of X in the United states...your application is much weaker. Admission deans LOVE kids who are involved outside of school. Sports, volunteering, plays, boyscouts, school newspaper, clubs...only a few examples of extra cirriculars. You don't need to play sports as I said before, those are only one kind of extra cirriculars.

What is the difference between sky sports 1 and 2 for the world cup cricket?
Q. I want to watch the world cup cricket on sky sports. What is the difference between sky sports 1 and 2? I am asking as it is obviously more expensive to get both. Should I get both if I don't want to miss a match or is everything going to be broadcast on sky sports 1. Does sky sports 1 normally carry the more important live event and 2 is used for the secondary sport? Like if there is golf and cricket on at the same time. All sounds to me as if sky did this to make more money out of sport deprived souls stuck on Freeview or Freesat.
Asked by Niel - Tue Mar 1 06:07:39 2011 - Cricket - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Most of the Cricket World Cup matches are on Sky Sports 1, however if there is live Premier League football or another big match then the cricket does get moved to Sky Sports 2. Also when there are two matches on the same day which overlap the lesser match can be followed using the red button service.

How do sports like fencing or archery work in colleges?
Q. let's explain better. Im going to graduate high school, would like to do either of these sports, if these sports are available at a college can I participate in them even if I have never practiced the sport. The colleges on which im planning to attend do not specify anything and apparently they are not intramural. My high school does not offer these sports and neither does my town.

A. While I do not have experience with college archery and/or fencing teams, I do have experience with archery and fencing done by college students. If the college(s) you are looking at do(es) not offer archery and/or fencing, you should find out if there is an SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms, Inc.) branch located at/affiliated with the college(s) you are interested in. The SCA, because its main focus is the study and re-creation/re-enactment of the Middle Ages, incorporates archery and fencing into its activities -- and most major colleges (and many community colleges) have an on-campus SCA presence. The good part is that you do not have to join the SCA to take part in the archery/fencing, unless you want to join. I have been involved… [cont.]

How many sports are estimated to be played in the United States?
Q. I need to cite an article that has some sort of statistics on this topic. Any statistic like: how many sports are offered to students in school, or how many sports can be seen on television throughout the year.
Asked by Tracy J - Tue Mar 31 19:12:10 2009 - Other - Sports - 1 Answers - Comments
A. I would check out the website for the National Federation of High Schools to see what they list, as well as check out the 51 state high school associations (Iowa has two) to see what they sanction. As far as what's on TV, try searching for the Neilsen Ratings organization, as it will show you what we watch.

What to major in for a sports related job?
Q. Currently, I am a criminal justice major. I was thinking that I want to change my major so that I will have a career that has something to do with professional sports. I am a girl so I feel that it would be hard for me to have a job in the professional sports world, however, I am willing to try since sports is something that I am very passionate about. Any suggestions about what majors/ career paths I should look into to? Thanks!

A. Kinesiology if you want to go into sports medicine. Or, if you're interested in covering sports on TV, go into journamism. These are both very competitive fields so networking is key.

What is the proper way to wear a sports bra?
Q. If I want to go to the gym in just a sports bra, how do I wear it lol? Like do I wear the sports bra and the sports bra alone? Because it seems like everyone else does that, but I can't. I never see anyone do that, but it's the only way I'm comfortable running.. Help lol?

What sports are easy to learn and be good at?
Q. I'm a teenage girl and sadly never really played sports, I now wanna pick up on extra activities. What sports are easier to join? I have flat feet and am not a great runner which I know is a disadvantage... I'm average sized, and taller. I started going to the gym to get in better shape. Also, anyone have an idea for a good instrument to play? I'm a real beginner and need to learn music notes etc again. I wanna play piano... Any suggestions?

A. That's like how i used to be i hated sports and i never played any sports, i couldn't run either (and still can't) but last year I decided to get into competitive cheerleading. Its fun and you can join a level one or recreational team (they still compete) without having any previous tumble experience at all! I started barely being able to do a cartwheel! You will pick up on motions easily, high V, Low V, T, Clean, Clasp, touchdown etc, etc... Jumps are easy enough to learn (Toe touch, pike, T jump, Hurdler) they just take time to perfect, Stunting is a little harder if your on the short side you can be a flyer (the one that is lifted up) If you are at medium height you will be a side base, and if your taller a back or front spot. Don't… [cont.]

Everybody on your team goes through the same experience, whether its being tired from practices or joy from winning, it's all fun. The first week might be tough and you might one to quit, but it all gets easier. After the first two weeks of practices, you'll want to go track more than ever. And it's not all running, there's jumping and throwing to. I would recommend throwing because it's easier, funner, and you feel like… [cont.]
